‘Passion and Desire’ 2016 – an art award celebrating erotic love – won by Steve Hillier.
Now in its 14th year, the ‘Passion and Desire’ Art Award (formerly known as the “Erotic and Exotic Art Award”) celebrates these most basic aspects of the human psyche and condition. Open to artists practicing in all media and disciplines – including sculpture, painting, photography, pottery etc. – the exhibition has proved to be a successfully interesting and entertaining event on the Gold Coast for many years.
Many artists throughout the centuries have expressed themselves in this genre – from the sculptures of Rodin, the drawings of Maillot, the etchings of Degas and Daumier to the erotic paintings of Picasso, Norman Lindsay and Whitely. The Gold Coast Sculpture Society provides local artists and viewing public the opportunity to contemplate the humorous, the serious, the mundane and the forbidden issues of love, sexuality, romance, desire, passion, pleasure and sensuality. Passion & Desire 2016 is an 18+ event held in the Schoolhouse Gallery at the Society’s premises at Benowa (corner Ashmore Road and Carrara Street).
