About Brian Cook

A living master is a person whose life has been dedicated to the perfection of their art; whose skills have become a benchmark against which others’ work is judged.  With Brian Cook the Gold Coast has a true Living Master.   His work can be found not only in the homes of many Art Collectors, but also in those of other Artists, an aspect that Brian, in his humility, feels to be the ultimate honour.

Brian was born in Yorkshire, England, where his early influences were the works of Turner and Constable.  As a young man he emigrated to Australia at a time when Australian Art has found its own identity through the works of Streeton, Roberts and the Heidelgerg School.  Brian was deeply impressed with the Australian Post-Impressionists and their way of depicting the strong light and colour of the Australian landscape.  Now entering the eighth decade of a life that has seen his work accredited with numerous awards and accolades, but with commercial recognition rising and falling a number of times through the vagaries of the Artworld, Brian has remained true to his ideals, beliefs and his own artistic strengths.  He has continued to produce outstanding paintings that will remain virtually timeless and will give enduring pleasure to those that own them.

Hillier and Skuse Gallery is proud to be the exclusive representative for new works by this important artist.

  1. The very talented artist Brian Cook. His natural ability and raw talent. Brian’s master pieces capture the true meaning and feelings of the eye and heart of the beholder. Great lover of his the ability to transfer scenes of natural light in his landscape art. I have enjoyed hours in reflection and memories. A true and raw artist. Brian’s work is truly inspirational.

  2. Hello! My name is Amy and today I visited the museum of Brisbane where I saw a very special pen and ink drawing of Parish St. Spring Hill from 1980 by Brian Cook.. I’m hoping by contacting you that you represent the same Brian Cook! Parish St has tremendous significance to my family as it was the place of my great grandmother’s family home before Ww2 with an incredible history. Is there any way I could obtain a reproduction of this print? Also, I would love to see more of Brian’s work and do an interview for ABC Gold Coast if possible.
    Many thanks, Amy McDonald

    • Hi Amy. I’m not entirely sure but expect it is the same. Our Brian used to do a lot of very detailed architectural pen and ink drawings. He is about eighty now and still producing wonderful paintings. In fact, he just won the $10,000 first prize in the d’Arcy Doyle Art Award. I will forward your message on to Brian.

  3. Hi just wanting to find out if Brian Cook did any abstract paintings. We have one named “Hot Turbine” signed by a B. Cook 02. And wondered if it was the same Brian Cook.
