ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
I was intrigued by the image of wildlife photographer, David Flannery, whose enigmatic photograph of a group of pied stilts had me questioning what was “reality” (bird) and what was mere “appearance” (reflection). I began to see it as a  kind of unity or equivalence where the reflections had as much substance as the subject. When David kindly gave me permission to use his image, I wanted to make a painting that was deliberately ambiguous.
