ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
The hawk is a black-shouldered kite, one of Australia’s striking falcons. Titled after hearing the Cold Chisel song when I was trying to think of a suitable title for the painting, rather than just the birds’ name, as it complemented the setting of an early morning successful hunt. The painting was a finalist in the Holmes Art Prize, a competition for realistic works featuring Australian birds.
