ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
You have to admire the man (and his contemporaries) who achieved the pinnacle of human commercial endeavor, namely, how to produce something worth tens of thousands of dollars in a matter of hours! (Some early-career shrewd gallery spruiking and backroom art world deals probably helped a little.) That was a little cynical, I’ve got nothing against abstract art (more so the art bureaucrats), but you have to question some of the deeply philosophical attributions and contrived commentary you find in the art media, etc., attributed to some of it. I never really got into the Sex Pistols either, but it was a great album title and the brain neurons made the simple connection (Pollocks/Bollocks) and the painting flowed from there. I admit, trying to get something resembling ‘Blue Poles’ was fun (so I did it twice), but I think I’d get bored pretty quickly if that was all there was to making “art”.
