ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
Obviously a tongue-in-cheek pastiche of J.W. Waterhouse’s very famous painting on permanent display at the Tate in London. Waterhouse’s painting (along with a host of other artists through the years) was inspired by Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poem The Lady of Shalott, which in turn was a derivative of the Arthurian Legends. Both the poem and the painting are personal favourites, so it was an act of homage to see how close I could get to the feel of Waterhouse’s work but with my own little deviation. It’s one thing to facsimile another painting, but another to replicate the emotional feel and draw of such a famous work, especially working from photographic reproductions.
