ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
I like the apparent visual simplicity yet the carefully considered amount of detail and the cleanness of line within Anime/Manga Art. Pom-Pon Kitty was designed within the conventions of the modern popularised interpretation of the female form in this style of art. The idea was twofold: initially simply to see if I could ‘do’ anime, and secondly, to see how it would work using oil paint and a conventional artwork format presentation. Both paintings feature Pom-Pon in an everyday situation. They were fun to paint, and I’m pleased with the suggestive naughtiness yet generally acceptable visual of the result. Pom-Pon Kitty was a character in a US TV game show featuring nerds in competition with each other.
